The
organisers of Repco Rally Australia, the Australian round of the FIA
World Rally Championship, have announced the preferred route for the
3-6 September event in the New South Wales Northern Rivers.
A map of the preferred route can be downloaded by clicking here.
The rally will comprise 35 competitive special stages totalling 340.4 kilometres in the Tweed and Kyogle Shires.
The organisers have now received in either draft or final form all
reports required to lodge the necessary applications with various
authorities.
These reports will be released to the public as they are finalised over the next seven to 10 days.
The route has only been confirmed by the Organising Committee
following receipt of the preliminary Ecological Assessment Report on 4
May.
The report is very extensive and detailed and essentially approved the route from the viewpoint of ecological impact.
“Our preferred route has taken into account the views of the
community, the very detailed reports from an outstanding team of
independent experts and our desire to present a spectacular motor sport
event for the region,” said Organising Committee Chairman Garry
Connelly.

REPCO
RALLY AUSTRALIA SECURES AGREEMENT WITH GITHABUL PEOPLE
A COMPREHENSIVE report on cultural heritage issues within the Githabul
Native Title Claim area has revealed that Repco Rally Australia will not impact
on Aboriginal cultural heritage values.
As a result, the Githabul People have reached agreement with the organisers for
the rally to proceed in the New South Wales Northern Rivers on 3-6 September.
The independent report was commissioned by the rally organisers and prepared
with the assistance and cooperation of the Githabul People, the Native Title
Claimants over land through which stages of the rally will pass.
It was compiled by Davies Heritage Consultants Pty Ltd.
The Chairman of the Rally Organising Committee, Garry Connelly, said he was
very happy that agreement with the Githabul People had been negotiated.

ECOLOGICAL REPORT SAYS RALLY AUSTRALIA CAN
PROCEED
ALL RECOMMENDATIONS TO BE ADOPTED
THE organisers of Repco Rally Australia, the World Rally Championship 10th
round to be staged in the New South Wales Northern Rivers region on 3-6
September, have released a comprehensive, independent Ecological Report which
concludes there are no reasons the event should not proceed on ecological
grounds.
The report, comprising one section devoted to Kyogle Shire and one to the Tweed
Shire plus respective Koala Plans of Management, totals almost 400 pages.
It is available for public viewing at www.rallyaustralia.com/reports,
along with a Question and Answer document.
The report was prepared by highly-respected environmental scientist Dr Stephen
Phillips, of Biolink Pty Ltd, a company based locally in Murwillumbah.
“We are delighted with the conclusions of the report, which clearly indicate
that this rally can be conducted in a manner that is in harmony with the
ecological values of the area,” Rally Australia Organising Committee Chairman
Garry Connelly said.
Dr Phillips and his staff worked for more than four months to prepare and
compile the detailed report.
